Return 1: Invitation

Cauldron Lake

  1. Cut through the trees to beeline to Mulligan. Dialogue: 1, 2, 2
  2. Proceed down the path right of the picnic area to the cult stash: R4, L2, R2
  3. Head toward the murder site wait for Thornton to arrive.
    1. As soon as Thornton begins to say, “This is the scene of the crime.” open Mind Place and skip the cutscene.
    2. Exit as soon as Saga starts to say “The facts are on the board.”
  4. Start hitting the interact key to interact with the table as soon as you return from Mind Place.
  5. Open the Case Board after Saga finishes saying “Ritualistic.”
    1. Place CAULDRON LAKE MURDER SCENE on the Case Board and skip the cutscene.
    2. Exit after the string connects to “CONSISTENT WITH PREV. MURDERS?”
  6. Interact with the body to collect the clues.
    1. Collect the Chest first, then exit.
    2. Collect the Heart next. Do not exit. It’s quicker to wait out the heart dialogue than exit and interact again.
    3. Collect the Wrist third.
    4. Place all three clues on “CONSISTENT WITH PREV. MURDERS?” on the Case Board.
    5. Skip the cutscene. You can exit after the note appears under “CONSISTENT WITH PREV. MURDERS?”
  7. Collect the murder site clues.
    1. Collect the blood on the table near Nightingale’s head.
    2. Collect the footprints on the ground next to the table.
    3. Interact with the bench where the cooler is. Collect the cooler and tripod clues. Saga will still be talking about the footprints, so you can collect both immediately without waiting on dialogue.
    4. Talk to Thornton (1) and skip dialogue.
    5. Talk to Casey (1) and skip dialogue.
  8. Open the Case Board and place the clues you have collected.
    1. Place the notes with Casey and Thornton onto “THE VICTIM?”
    2. Place the photos of the blood and footprints onto “THE KILLERS(S)?”. This will add “PREMEDITATED OR SPONTANEOUS?” to the board.
    3. Place the photos of the tripod and cooler onto “PREMEDITATED OR SPONTANEOUS?”
    4. Skip the cutscene. This will add “VICTIM CAME FROM…?” to the Case Board and start the Profiling tutorial. Skip the cutscene.
    5. Interact with the Profiling table and click on NIGHTINGALE, then MISSING PERSON when it appears on the left. Skip the cutscene.
    6. Switch to the Case Board and place the Nightingale note onto “VICTIM CAME FROM…?” After the string connects the clue, exit the Mind Place.
      • If you do not place this clue before leaving the murder site, you will be unable to get the key later and will be soft-locked!
  9. Proceed toward Witch’s Ladle. Interact with the Page, then the Footprints, then exit and skip the cutscene. It’s quicker to wait out the page dialogue than to exit and interact again.
  10. Proceed back towards Deputy Thornton. Once you get close enough that you see him start to stand up, open the Mind Place. 1. Interact with the Profiling table and click on NIGHTINGALE, then THE PAGE when it appears on the bottom-left. Skip the cutscene.
    1. Switch to the Case Board and place the footprints and ladle photos onto “VICTIM CAME FROM…?” This will add “ANYTHING ELSE HERE…?” to the board.
    2. Place only the Nightingale note onto “ANYTHING ELSE HERE…?” and exit the Mind Place. You do not need to place the manuscript clue.
  11. Walk toward Thornton as Saga speaks to Casey. After Casey finished saying “Okay.” talk to Thornton (1), skip the dialogue twice, take the key, and head through the shortcut to the car and to Bright Falls (1).

Bright Falls

  1. Skip the two transition cutscenes and, as of version 1.0.14, you should gain control of Saga in the middle of the street next to the diner instead of at the lodge. Head toward Breaker via the sidewalk to the left of the white SUV. Dialogue: 1, 1
  2. Head for the Bookers inside the diner.
    1. Start hitting 1 to initiate the dialogue as soon as you’re within range.
    2. The next two options are 2 and 2.
    3. Profile the BOOKERS and clock on THE CULT OF THE TREE when it appears on the left. Skip the cutscene and exit the Mind Place.
    4. The next dialogue option is 2, then skip cutscene twice.
    5. After the fade to black, start hitting the interact key to pick up the necklace and then skip the next cutscene.
  3. Head for the Sheriff’s Station.
    1. After Mulligan and Thornton start talking, quick slot your handgun and healing pads.
    2. Open the Case Board to let the manuscript clue be placed on “ANYTHING ELSE HERE…?”
    3. Keep waiting for Breaker and Casey. It should take about 76 seconds for them to reach the station from the diner.
  4. After the deputies let you through, head behind the counter to collect the container, then collect the container from the first office on the left, then continue following Breaker to the morgue entrance
  5. Try to navigate ahead of Breaker and collect the loot from the lockers until guard lets you through the door to the morgue. This should be timed to Casey’s line, “Something about morgues, they always cheer me up.”
  6. Head for Nightingale and open the Case Board at his side. Allow the previous step to autofill, then Begin the EXAMINATION OF R. NIGHTINGALE, skip the cutscene, then exit the Mind Place. This step should overlap dialogue in the morgue.
  7. Interact with the body to begin the examination.
    1. Collect the clues by interacting with one, then either opening/closing Mind Place or exiting and re-entering the examination, then collecting the next clue overlapping the dialogue.
    2. I prefer to go in this order but if you’re quick it shouldn’t matter: heart, shoulder, head, chest, hand.
    3. Open the Case Board and place the clues in the reverse order that you collected them.
      1. Place the hand photo on “ANYTHING TO LEARN FROM THE BODY?” This will add “CAUSE OF DEATH?” to the Board.
      2. Place the foot and chest photos on “CAUSE OF DEATH?”
      3. Place the shoulder photo on “ANYTHING TO LEARN FROM THE BODY?” This will add “RITUAL WRITING?” to the Board.
      4. Place the heart photo on “RITUAL WRITING?”
    4. After the board completes, skip the cutscene and exit the Mind Place.
  8. Start hitting the interact key after the fade to black to start the cutscene, then skip the cutscene.
  9. Run into the light then 180 to face the exit and wait for Nightingale. The cue to move will be when Nightingale turns to walk to the right of Saga, which is about 20 seconds from the time you regained control of Saga.
  10. Head for Saga’s gun and hit the interact key to pick it up as soon at it’s within range.
  11. Shoot Nightingale and skip the cutscene to end the chapter. It should take two headshots to finish him.
